Lounging mommy

I have the privilege of being a stay at home mommy! A lot of people would give anything to be able to have the opportunity to see their beloved children grow up everyday. I love being able to bond with my baby and see what new things my little princess has developed each day. Although there are that group of mommies who do stay home and the group that envy those of us that do there is another group who’s automatic reaction to hearing “stay at home mom,” is that of judgment and assumptions that the day is full of lounging and bon-bon’s and our favorite soaps. The thought is often that those mothers who stay home are uneducated and can not get decent jobs anyways. I am here to tell you this is not so! I graduated with a Bachelors degree from a prestigious, private university and am less than two semesters away from a master’s degree in Clinical mental health counseling. I’m not saying every mother who stays home is the same but it’s important to know that there are a variety of stay at home moms and neither is better than the other. Our day is just as productive as yours, if not more so, our day is filled with helping develop a mind from scratch and doing so while dealing with baby poo, spit up, and possible colic. Yes, babies nap, well most do, some less than others…mine in the latter category. But these nap times are not when we moms kick back and open a cold one but rather the small window in which we must pick up toys, clean bottles, do baby laundry, do our own laundry, put said laundry away, oh yes, and throw some food in our mouths to keep us going. Ok, let me sit and try and drink a cup of coffee for my “me” time. Oh wait there goes the baby. These “me” moments are short lived. Not only do we do the daytime shift but night is there too! You may clock out at 5pm but a mommy doesn’t. And this is not meant to be a hate on working mothers but rather a look into the life of a mother who stays home. I have the highest respect for those career mothers! I don’t know how you do it. Work a full day and then come home and begin your second job as mommy. Hats off to yall! Every mom has her own way and we must give credit where credit is due! No matter what category you land in, stay at home mommy or career mom, we all should take a step back, take off your stiletto’s and exchange it for the woman next to you, being a mother is difficult either way and we must be willing to put ourselves in the others red bottomed shoes.
