After having my two kids between 27 and 29 years old I not only grew out of but matured out of a lot of my clothes. So I went on a closet binge and offered anything that I was too “old” for or rather too mature, as I like to think of it, and donated it. After this much needed cleansing I felt so much relief, but as time went on I found it difficult to find something to wear. And no not in the usual “I haven’t got a thing to wear”, girlie way. I legitimately had about 3 nice shirts, 3 pairs of jeans, 2 shorts, and 5 dresses. I felt OK on the bottom quantities but top wise I would truly hope I was never invited anywhere simply because of the dark hole that was my closet. I just needed things to be able to go in public with. I hardly go “out on the town” so a simple supply of a few cute tops/shirts could handle that. I needed cute casual “I just threw this on” kind of outfits. Normally I would just go to the mall but we are trying to cut back because we have a few trips planned within the next year and we want to save as much as possible. I came across an app called ‘Poshmark’. And that is how I came to learn to budget my self diagnosed shopping addiction! Have the same problem? Don’t worry! You can fill your need and continue to be on a budget!
“Poshmark”, is pretty well known, and reminds me of a virtual ‘Ross clothing store’. Plus who doesn’t love shopping online! I know that as a mommy of two, it is almost unrealistic to think I’d be able to go to store, kids in tow, and be free to look through, much less actually try on clothes! This app is perfect! It allows you to shop from gently used clothing to brand new with tags(NWT). There is a good deal of designer bags on the site as well for fair prices. Prices range of course depending on what you are looking for and brands. Search ability is so easy. You simply put in your sizes, brand if you choose, and choose a category(shirts, pants, shoes, etc). You can even search by price range, mine is always under $25 😉
Now, I don’t mind wearing previously used clothing as long as it doesn’t look worn. I know some people find issue with this but I find it awesome and a good deal. How many times have you bought something that just didn’t work for you and you never returned it? Or bought something for a specific event and never wore it again? Happens to me all the time! So I like to snatch up good buys like those. You can also sell your own items on ‘Poshmark’. You can become a ‘posher’ by taking pictures of your items and posting them along with details, like sizing and price, to your app and people can then shop your ‘closet’. I bought Nike work out shoes that were gently used for just $13! 4 shirts that totaled to about $30 including shipping! After purchasing you can view tracking and rate the seller after receiving the item. I do love this app, but as in all things, it has its flaws, well flaw..I have only found one so far. Since you are buying from individual sellers, or ‘Poshers’ if you will, you must pay separate shipping for each purchase, unless you do a bundle! That is your best option, look for someone’s closet that you love and bundle your items into one purchase, not only do you only pay one shipping cost(usually $5.99 and it gets to you in 1-3 days) but sometimes the seller offers deals(ex:10% off).
I would definitely give this app a look if you’re a shopping addict like me but want to keep it on a budget! As they say, “Happy Poshing!”
