“Quit Your Gripin'”

After what seemed like years of trying different things I finally am ready to admit my baby has colic! Oh, the dreadful word no mother wants to hear. When princess was just 4 weeks, the doctor mentioned the possibility of reflux problems, digestive issues, or “it could be colic…which is hard to diagnose…incessant crying during certain hours of the day, which are unexplained…” I figured “pfft” not my baby, its probably another “illness” that will easily be helped with some medicine. I am obviously not one of those parents who are anti-medicine or want all natural products. I am not saying anything bad about those who are but for me if my baby is in pain or having issues I don’t want to play games with it until something works, I want to skip right to the point and lets get this under control. Bless those who are like that and want to skip the medicinal route and can handle it…my husband is very much like that about himself but supports me and my “quick fix” attitude for the most part. Like I was saying, our pediatrician suggested reflux drops, we tried them for a good two weeks to a month and…nothing. There were times where I thought it was working, but now in hind sight, I believe I was just wishing it so bad that I could convince myself of a great deal at the time. Since then we’ve tried changing her formula (which was in fact an issue she had but that’s enough of a spiel for another blog in itself), changing her bottles, doing a nighttime routine, lavender scented everything, from lotion to nasal drops (I am sure we’d have that too if it was real). Anything to avoid this earth-shattering cry that took place every night at about 9pm. (yes, my baby is a night owl…. and a day owl…my baby doesn’t sleep.) It’s as if her inner clock and ours were synced and would chime at 9pm almost on the dot and there it went! She was off with a vengeance, crying and screaming, nothing calmed her… The reason for the lavender scented formula ;)… was because we were anticipating this horrific nightly theatrics and wanted to get the baby to sleep before it hit! DIDN’T WORK! We tried anything and everything that said good for ‘colic’. I swear anyone could invent some type of baby product and put ‘helps with colic’ on the label and parents would by it in a heartbeat! Here we are at almost 4 months and just last month we started baby on Gripe water…don’t ask me to explain it because I get the question all the time and I just say “it helps with teething and colic,” because that’s all I know. Most people’s minds shut off after that anyhow and figure it must work…which my vote is it does! When she uses the gripe water I find she is a much calmer baby and we haven’t had a 9pm episode in a few weeks (fingers crossed). Now I’m not saying this is for sure what solved our issue because it could very well just have been good timing and her growing out of her colic state but in my mind I like to believe it helped. Don’t get me wrong…. she still doesn’t sleep.

  1. Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just
your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and everything.
But just imagine if you added some great visuals or videos to give
your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and clips, this blog could certainly be one
of the greatest in its field. Fantastic blog!
