Trading friend for mommy

Over the past year, during my pregnancy and these first months of Audrey’s life I have learned that more times than not I have to trade in my friend name tag for that of mommy.
I was very ill for the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy and wasn’t able to see a lot of my friends. I was bedridden and not the most enjoyable company anyhow. After sometime in my sixth month, I rejoined the land of the living. I tried to regain touch with some close friends. Thankfully most were so concerned with my health that they thought nothing of my friendship leave of absence.
Once princess was born I had an amazing response of support during her short time in the NICU. My friends were amazing. Now here in nearly the 4th month I find myself sitting here covered in milk and drool, sleep deprived, and wondering where did all the people go??
New babies bring so much joy and wonderful congratulations and comments, but what happens after those non mommy friends loose interest in the constant baby conversations and your lack of ability to party with them till 2am? Often these are the life changes that test a friendship. And sadly, more often than not we find ourselves trading in that friendship tag for a new drooled on mommy one.
A sad reality, but out of more than a handful of close friends I’m down to about two, one of which has a new baby of her own.
We all knew babies changed your world but this wasn’t something I had planned on. But as with everything else, you must role with the punches and move forward. Your family becomes your friends all of a sudden and your husband your best friend. Yes, I miss girl time quite often, but I would trade in my wine glass for a sweet slobbery kiss from my baby any day.
